Today I was looking through some pictures on my camera and I noticed my
camera strap cover was getting a little old. I knew I could purchase one off of Etsy but they are so easy and quick to make. So I decided to whip me up a new
one and show y'all how I do it! :)
I wanted something girly and maybe even a little vintage looking. This is what I came up with above.
.If you like it keep reading!
WHAT YOU WILL NEED <3
scissors. fabric. pins. hot glue gun or needle and thread. sewing machine. thin quilt batting.
STEP ONE <3
Measure your straps length and width.
Double the measurements in the width and add 3/4 of an inch.
add 3/4 of an inch in the length as well.
STEP TWO <3
Cut 2 identical rectangles using your measurements out of your fabric.
also cut one out of the batting the same size.
STEP THREE <3
After you have everything cut out and edges straight. Put one rectangle face down. Then, add the quilt batting. On top of that the last rectangle of fabric face up. It is kind of like a tiny tiny quilt.
Then you will pin the corners to make sure none of the layers shift as you are sewing. I like using safety pins for this because I feel it keeps the layers in place but you can use regular pins.
STEP FOUR <3
sew some lines in the "tiny quilt" about 3-4 inches apart. You can do this any way you would like you can sew your lines diagonally or horizontally as I did. I would suggest you use a thread that is close to the color of your fabric if you are like me and have trouble sewing straight lines. ;)
(note I used darker thread so that it would be visible in the photos)
STEP FIVE <3
hem the top and bottom (Short ends) as pictured below.

STEP SIX <3
Fold your "tiny quilt" length wise or "hot dog style" as my first grade teacher would have said.
Y'all know you remember that. : )
STEP SEVEN <3
PIN PIN PIN! I know it looks easy but don't be like me and think "oh no need to pin its just sewing a line."
but I had to flip it inside out a bazillion times because I didn't sew through all of the layers.
SO pin it and sew a straight line.
then zig-zag stitch the edges to prevent fraying and then flip that baby inside out.
Now you can stop there and it is cute but I wanted to add some embellishments. I used my hot glue gun because I HATE HAND SEWING....but if you want to use needle and thread you can.
If you want flowers like mine just take a strip of fabric then glue and pleat the fabric as you go...to form a little bowl looking flower. I also glued a pearl in the center for a little bling.
you also can add bows, rosettes, buttons, ruffles and lace.
whatever your heart's desire.
Next just slip it over your camera strap, and that's it!!!
I like the way it turned out. It looks so much better than that ugly black strap and will protect your camera strap from getting damaged or dirty.
Until Next Time... < 3
